Shoes for Austin is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides new, brand name athletic shoes and socks to disadvantaged youth through an incentive program. Shoes for Austin gives shoe grants to more than 40 Austin area health and human services nonprofits and schools, which in turn provide new athletic shoes to youth involved in their programs. These include children from elementary through high school who are from low-income families and could not otherwise afford to buy new athletic shoes.
Each partner agency works with children who set self-improvement goals such as improving school grades, learning new sport skills, and learning about nutrition and fitness. To help these individuals complete their goals, they are rewarded with new, name brand athletic shoes and socks from Shoes for Austin.
Shoes for Austin will provide 10,000 pairs of shoes to hard-working individuals at over 40 local nonprofit agencies in 2007. Since its inception in 2000, Shoes for Austin has partnered with more than 90 local nonprofits and donated over 56,000 pairs of shoes valued at more than $4.8 million to deserving children and families across Austin.
